Sunday Randomness

August 10, 2008

I’ve got nothing to say, but was feeling the urge to blog.  I’m not sure what that means.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been glued to the Olympics this weekend. Now if only I had a hi-def TV…

I think I successfully restored my itunes library today off of my ipod.  I hope so anyway.  I had to purchase a $20 program called ipod access to transfer the songs to itunes.  Well worth the money…

I’ve been running sound at church quite a bit lately.  The goal of every FOH sound guy is to not be noticed.  Today I was noticed in the first service…  We were showing a Dave Ramsey video as the message today.  When Ed hit play on the video, there was no sound.  I wasn’t even getting a signal to the board. (We had successfully checked the signal before the service…)  So Bryson came out and started talking.  It took us about a minute to fix the problem.  (Somehow the cable into the mixer had unplugged after soundcheck.)  Then it took another minute to get Bryson to stop talking…  Second service was a non-issue.  Two words – strain relief.

The music sounded awesome though…

Speaking of church audio and video… Mike Sessler has a great little blog called Church Tech Arts.  Definitely a must-read.

My good friend, Randy Bowles, took me to lunch at Great Wall today.  My fortune cookie said “Maybe you can live on the moon in next century.” Not sure what to make of that…

A few months ago, I created a Facebook account.  I have really enjoyed reconnecting with some of my high school friends that I haven’t seen in years.  It’s been interesting to catch up with people living in Ecuador, Siberia, and the Philippines.  Wichita doesn’t seem very exotic in comparison.

Click here to send me a Facebook friend request.

Despair.com has a new demotivational poster out today.  I thought it was pretty funny.

And I’m spent…

Some great songs to check out

April 25, 2008

Just thought I’d share some of the songs that have been getting repetitive ipod/cd time lately.

  • Unite by Worth Dying For. You can download the song for free here. You may recall that I downloaded the album last week. It’s a decent album. Nothing wrong with it, but only a few songs wowed me.
  • At the Moment by Stavesacre. An oldie but a goodie. It’s always been one of my favorite songs, but it really moved me yesterday on the way to work.
  • Love Revolution by Lenny Kravitz. Title track off Lenny’s latest album. Awesome song.
  • Bring it On by Lenny Kravitz. Ditto. (except for the title track bit…)
  • Divine Romance by Phil Wickham. Beautiful lyrics.
  • Signature of Divine (Yahweh) by Needtobreathe. Great worship song. I’ve been trying to figure out whether this would work at GracePoint.
  • What Do I Know of Holy by Addison Road. Very powerful lyrics.
  • We Shine by Fee. I like the Passion version better than Fee album version. It’s more guitar-driven. I’m sure this will make it to a GracePoint Sunday Morning Experience sometime soon. You can view a great video of Fee leading this song at Buckhead. Simply awesome.

My ipod is collecting dust lately… (a.k.a. Tuesday whining)

March 4, 2008

I recently received a promotion at work.  And like all such promotions, my workload increased and the number of meetings increased.  That’s okay, cause I’m really excited about the job.

But here’s what sucks!  I used to spend quite a bit of time at me desk on the computer everyday.  So, I got to listen to a lot of music and podcasts on my ipod.  Somedays, I’d listen to the ipod for 5 or 6 hours out of an 8-hour workday.

Now I’m in a lot of meetings, or on the phone most of the time.  The ipod rarely gets turned on.  I’m really starting to miss the constant stream of music to my brain.  Plus, I’m several weeks behind on the Relevant podcast.

I’ve been trying to find some new songs for the gals in Edge of Grace to sing, but I’m really having trouble finding time to listen to new music.  I downloaded Leeland’s new album a week ago, and haven’t made it past the first song.  Fireflight’s new album came out today, and I am wondering if I should bother buying it.  Not sure when I’d get to listen to it.

Ok, I guess I’m just being whiny.  I should be grateful about the new job (and I am!)

Maybe I need a new car stereo that I can sync my ipod to.  I’ll mention that to Andrea tonight, and we’ll see how far it goes.
